About Us
Here in Texas, we’re developing a game to help future engineers and computer scientists learn how to design digital circuits. Planet K pairs the motivational power of games with effective educational practices to engage learners in sustained, scaffolded problem-solving.
As researchers, we’re interested in studying the impact of an educational game on the skill development and attitudes of diverse learners, including those that have traditionally been underrepresented in STEM fields. 2. We are developing and validating new, innovative game-based formative and summative assessment approaches to assess student learning for both summative and formative purposes while students are receiving instruction from the game. Through an iterative design process, we are also learning what game design features keep players engaged and learning throughout.
Our team includes engineers, computer scientists, and educators; instructional designers, game designers, artists, and programmers; faculty, students, and folks from industry. We’re as diverse as the learners we hope to reach.
Development and research on Planet K is funded by the National Science Foundation.
